bunq PIA: fees, terms and review

bunq's position: Considering. No verdict until bunq publishes full terms — this page tracks what has been said and what is still missing.

Updated 4 November 2026

What bunq has said

PIA·IE has been in contact with bunq, and bunq has confirmed it is considering offering a Personal Investment Account. It has not announced a launch date, fees or an investment range.

Source: Correspondence with PIA·IE, 4 November 2026. Position confirmed by bunq to PIA·IE; we have summarised it in our own words.

Considering: The firm or its group has commented publicly on the account without committing to offer it (or has signalled related interest).

Authorisation: Credit institution authorised in the Netherlands, operating in Ireland on a branch basis (Central Bank register C466118)

What to expect on investment choice

bunq has not published its PIA investment range. Firms usually build from what they already sell, so our working expectation is that it will reflect its bunq Stocks feature, open to verified customers living in Ireland: a selection of US and European stocks and ETFs, bought in fractional shares from €10, with investment services provided by its partner Ginmon.

  • bunq launched Stocks in Ireland in November 2024, so if it offers a PIA the range is likely to look like that: a selection of US and European stocks and ETFs you choose yourself, which the Bill allows.
  • Stocks is run through bunq's trading partner Ginmon, so which entity would hold and report a PIA has not been explained.
  • bunq's Irish pitch is heavily savings-led, and cash in a PIA cannot earn interest under the Bill (s.747L), so its savings interest would not carry into the account. Its crypto offering is outside the account's scope.

Individual shares: likely

bunq already offers individual stocks and ETFs through bunq Stocks, so both are likely in a PIA. It has not confirmed the range.

Advice or DIY

No advice. bunq Stocks is execution-only today and we do not expect an advised PIA.

Existing range: bunq Help — Who can use bunq Stocks? (checked 5 November 2026). This section is PIA·IE's reading of bunq's current offering, not a statement from bunq. We will replace it with published PIA terms when they appear.

Existing investments and the PIA

Short answer: they stay separate. The Finance Bill lets only new cash into a PIA. Your existing investments, with bunq or anywhere else, cannot be moved into it as they are.

What if…

  • I want my existing investments in a PIA? You would have to sell them and pay the money in, within the €12,000 yearly limit. Selling can trigger exit tax on funds and ETFs, or CGT on shares.
  • I keep my existing plan? Nothing changes for it under section 26. It carries on under its current rules alongside any PIA.
  • I open a PIA elsewhere and later switch to bunq? A PIA-to-PIA transfer is allowed, if bunq offers a PIA and accepts transfers in.

Not advice: whether to keep or cash in an existing plan depends on your gains, charges and plans. In the Finance Bill, not yet law. See moving existing investments into a PIA.

What is still unconfirmed

Nothing about a bunq PIA has been confirmed beyond the fact that bunq is considering it.

  • Whether bunq will offer a PIA, and when.
  • Whether the account would be run by bunq directly or through a partner, like its current Stocks service.
  • The investment range and whether advice will be available or required.
  • Fees, minimum investment and how PIA-to-PIA transfers in from other providers will work.

  • Whether advice or commission is built in, and whether you can opt out.
  • Fund charges on the funds you'd actually hold.
  • Exit and transfer charges if you later move provider.

In the Finance Bill, not yet law

Common questions

Can I buy individual shares in a bunq PIA?

bunq already offers individual stocks and ETFs through bunq Stocks, so both are likely in a PIA. It has not confirmed the range.

Will bunq's PIA be advised or DIY?

No advice. bunq Stocks is execution-only today and we do not expect an advised PIA. Not yet confirmed by bunq for the PIA.

Will bunq offer a PIA?

bunq told PIA·IE on 4 November 2026 that it is considering offering a Personal Investment Account. No launch date, fees or range have been published.

What fees will bunq charge on its PIA?

Unconfirmed. bunq has not published PIA fees. We will add each cost line, with its source, as soon as it does.

Can I move existing bunq investments into a PIA?

No, not as they are. Under section 26 of the Finance (No. 2) Bill 2026, only cash can be paid into a PIA (s.747L(2)(c)), and investments can only move across as they are from another PIA (s.747W). Holdings outside the account would have to be sold first (with any tax due) and paid in as cash, up to €12,000 a calendar year. In the Finance Bill, not yet law.

What will I be able to invest in through bunq's PIA?

Unconfirmed. Budget 2027 said shares, bonds, ETFs and other funds may be held, but each provider's range is not yet known.

How is the PIA tax handled with bunq?

Under the Finance Bill, providers deduct the 1% charge on value above €50,000 — accounts up to €50,000 pay no PIA tax. Not yet law.
