What Interactive Brokers has said
Interactive Brokers Ireland told PIA·IE that it expects to offer the account, subject to the scheme's final rules and regulatory requirements. It has not given a launch date, fees or an investment range.
We welcome Ireland's recently announced program aimed at encouraging more Irish households to invest. We are committed to introducing products across local markets that help individuals at every stage of their investing journey make informed decisions and save for the future.
With a strong presence in Ireland, Interactive Brokers is well-positioned to meet applicable tax reporting obligations and expects to offer this account type, subject to the program's final rules and regulatory requirements. Our experience offering similar tax-advantaged products across Europe and globally will also help inform how we might deliver a comparable account for Irish investors.

What to expect on investment choice
Interactive Brokers has not published its PIA investment range. Firms usually build from what they already sell, so our working expectation is that it will reflect its existing brokerage account: a very wide range of global shares across many exchanges, UCITS ETFs, bonds and funds, with low-cost execution.
- If Interactive Brokers carries its current account into a PIA, the range would be shares and ETFs you choose yourself, which the Bill allows.
- Its pricing today is per-trade commission with low FX costs, rather than a percentage platform fee. PIA pricing is not published.
- It already runs tax-advantaged accounts in other European countries and says that experience will inform an Irish version. Which investments are eligible inside a PIA is not confirmed.
Individual shares: likely
Interactive Brokers is a share-dealing platform, so individual shares and UCITS ETFs are its core product. It has not confirmed the PIA range.
Advice or DIY
No advice. Interactive Brokers is execution-only today and we do not expect an advised PIA.
Existing range: Interactive Brokers Ireland. This section is PIA·IE's reading of Interactive Brokers's current offering, not a statement from Interactive Brokers. We will replace it with published PIA terms when they appear.
Existing investments and the PIA
Short answer: they stay separate. The Finance Bill lets only new cash into a PIA. Your existing investments, with Interactive Brokers or anywhere else, cannot be moved into it as they are.
Outside the PIA
Your existing investments
- ✕ Can't be moved in as they are
- • Keep their current tax rules
- • Keep their own charges and terms
Inside the PIA
New cash only
- ✓ Money paid in, then invested (s.747L(2)(c))
- ✓ Up to €12,000 a calendar year (s.747H(1))
- ✓ Moves as is only from another PIA (s.747W)
What if…
- I want my existing investments in a PIA? You would have to sell them and pay the money in, within the €12,000 yearly limit. Selling can trigger exit tax on funds and ETFs, or CGT on shares.
- I keep my existing plan? Nothing changes for it under section 26. It carries on under its current rules alongside any PIA.
- I open a PIA elsewhere and later switch to Interactive Brokers? A PIA-to-PIA transfer is allowed, if Interactive Brokers offers a PIA and accepts transfers in.
Not advice: whether to keep or cash in an existing plan depends on your gains, charges and plans. In the Finance Bill, not yet law. See moving existing investments into a PIA.
What is still unconfirmed
Interactive Brokers says its offer is subject to the scheme's final rules and regulatory requirements; it has not given a launch date.
- A launch date or timeline.
- Which of its existing shares, ETFs and funds will be eligible inside the PIA.
- Fees and any minimum investment.
- How PIA-to-PIA transfers in from other providers will work (the Bill already rules out moving existing non-PIA investments in as they are).

- Exit and transfer charges if you later move provider.
