Interactive Brokers Ireland considering a Personal Investment Account, subject to final rules

What was said
Kevin Keller, CEO of Interactive Brokers Ireland (IBIE), gave PIA·IE this comment on 29 October 2026:
"We welcome Ireland's recently announced program aimed at encouraging more Irish households to invest. We are committed to introducing products across local markets that help individuals at every stage of their investing journey make informed decisions and save for the future.
With a strong presence in Ireland, Interactive Brokers is well-positioned to meet applicable tax reporting obligations and expects to offer this account type, subject to the program's final rules and regulatory requirements. Our experience offering similar tax-advantaged products across Europe and globally will also help inform how we might deliver a comparable account for Irish investors."
Why it matters
- Irish authorisation. Interactive Brokers Ireland is authorised by the Central Bank of Ireland (register C423427), not passported in from abroad.
- Tax reporting. In a PIA the provider handles the 1% charge. The statement speaks to that directly.
- Share and ETF investors. Its current account covers a very wide range of global shares and UCITS ETFs, which the Bill allows inside a PIA.
What is still unknown
- Launch date, fees and minimums.
- Which investments will be eligible inside the account.
- The scheme itself: the Finance (No. 2) Bill 2026 is not yet law, and the start date is set by ministerial order.

Frequently asked
Will Interactive Brokers offer a PIA in Ireland?
Interactive Brokers Ireland told PIA·IE on 29 October 2026 that it expects to offer the account, subject to the scheme's final rules and regulatory requirements. It has not given a launch date.
Will I be able to buy individual shares in an Interactive Brokers PIA?
Not confirmed. Its current account offers a very wide range of global shares and UCITS ETFs, and the Bill allows both, so shares and ETFs look likely. That is PIA·IE's expectation, not a firm statement.
Can I move my existing Interactive Brokers holdings into a PIA?
Not as they are. Under the Finance (No. 2) Bill 2026 only cash can be paid in, up to €12,000 a year. Investments move as they are only from one PIA to another.
What will an Interactive Brokers PIA cost?
Not published. Separate from any provider charges, the State charges 1% a year on the account's average value above €50,000.
